Wilpattu Park is situated between the North Western and North Central provinces of Sri Lanka. It is one of the biggest and first parks to be opened to the public. It is supposed to be one of the best national parks in the world noted for leopard breeding. Due to 16 years of civil war and the park being closed for public, the density of the forest has increased. However it was reopened recently and visitors are able to tour only quarter of the area. It is the ideal location for safari trips in February and October.
